Jessie Lozanski is a self-taught artist and naturalist from Ottawa, Canada who moved to Lovell, Maine last year. While earning a degree in Biology from Carleton University she learnt about the celebrated Canadian artist Tom Thomson who had worked in Algonquin Provincial Park. Inspired by the way he captured the familiar Northern Ontario landscape, Jessie bought some paints and got a summer job in Algonquin Park where she started her painting journey.
Through a career in conservation, most of Jessie’s life is spent tramping through woods and wetlands. This love for the land and a keen naturalist eye has led to a deep connection between her art and place. She wants to celebrate the landscape she lives in, and not only the vast mountain views but the lovely small moments you find in a sunlit creek, a forgotten marsh, or a shaded road. Jessie believes everyone should have the opportunity to appreciate where they live and hopes her art can help people notice beauty in their everyday lives.
